Welcome to Tracing Spaces.
A physical space for people to come together with curiosity and care to explore their emotions and individual truths around their abortions.
For many of us, our abortions are holistic in that they involve our physical, emotional and spiritual selves although the care we receive (if any) is not. The pandemic has exacerbated this care gap even more.
g, an artist and Zachi, an abortion doula propose a new, experimental model of connection and care - Tracing Spaces. Inspired by their own abortions and their individual work to improve how many of us experience abortion, they have created a space for people to explore their abortion from a physical, emotional and spiritual pathway over 5 weekly in-person sessions.
Tracing Spaces is free for all who join and for this occasion is offered to folks living in South London who’ve had abortions during the pandemic (since January 2020).
Each week we will focus on a different area of your experience, guiding you with care and compassion:
• Week 1: SHARE your story.
• Week 2: HONOUR your experience.
•Week 3: AFFIRM your emotions.
•Week 4: CELEBRATE your body.
•Week 5: CLOSE in community.
The dates are still being finalised but sessions will most likely be held on Monday evenings from 7:30-9 pm starting on Monday October 4th with the final session being held on Monday 1st November in Brixton and the location will be shared upon confirmation of your place.
We challenge the narrative that there are good, bad, acceptable or unacceptable abortions; People have abortions, and we support them. Whatever your reasons for having one, needing one, wanting one, all abortion experiences are unique and deserve the same level of care. Whatever your story, you are welcome here.
So, if you live in South London, have had an abortion during the pandemic and can commit to journeying with us over 5 weeks, then please apply.
Who are your space guides?
About g
g (she/her) is a London based artist. In her work, she has been exploring the ways in which people interact with physical and digital spaces and the stories that places hold for individuals and communities.
in 2021 g was one of fifteen researchers on a residency with the University of the underground. Whilst on the program she focused on abortion, looking at reframing the way in which it is perceived. The work draws on her own experience of abortion and on conversations with her sister, a midwife working for the NHS. For this project, she created a website that represents a publicly visible online temple to honour the experience of abortion.
About Zachi
Zachi (she/her) is a Black, queer, abortion doula, sex educator and pleasure activist.
Inspired by her own abortion, she has spent the past 5 years supporting individuals through their abortion experiences and advocating for more holistic abortion care. In March 2021, she created Dopo, this community (and soon to be cooperative) providing honest and inclusive abortion support and education.
Alongside her abortion work, has a range of other roles in the community, but all of her work supports individuals through a range of transitional experiences and aligns with her personal mission to build communities and improve care around our shared stories.
